Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday held a meeting with the representatives of various industrial units for the establishment of a skill development University, the first mulled to come up at the Engineering Staff College. The Chief Minister has asked the officials and industry giants to come up with proposals for the same before the start of the budget session.

The State Industry department, in coordination with the Education department will be engaging with the Industry leaders to come up with an action plan. The CM directed the officials to submit the report before July 23, 2024. The Skill University is envisaged on the lines of public private partnership, with a hub located in the city and the spokes in every district headquarters (hub and spoke model).

Since the college is in proximity to IT companies and other industries, the CM ordered the officials to examine premises of Engineering Staff College for the skill university. A Corpus fund will be created with CSR donations from industry for setting up these centres.

Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, and Advisor to the Chief Minister Vem Narender Reddy, were present. Deputy CM Vikramarka has been asked to look after the financial matters needed to set up the university, while Sridhar Babu will oversee the preparation of curriculum and courses. The two ministers have been asked to formulate the proposals by a fixed deadline.

The Industry members have been tasked with demand assessment, curriculum development, skill training as well as offering internships. Whereas, the government will facilitate the process by giving necessary regulatory approvals, providing land and buildings, including existing facilities like ESCI and NAC.

The delegates discussed the constitution of a Board and decided to float one temporarily. The chief minister asked the officials to come up with a blueprint in advance for the courses which will be offered, on the lines of industrial needs and employment opportunities to the youth.

The officials have been asked to hire a reputed consultancy firms to prepare the necessary proposals and project reports for the establishment of the university. The department of Industries will be the nodal agency, the CM said.
